Human-Animal Relations & Education
In my current SNSF Postdoc.Mobility project, I examine educational programmes involving animals from an animal ethics perspective, asking what they mean for human–animal relations. This research combines philosophical analysis with empirically informed methods, including qualitative interviews and surveys.
Animal Ethics & Aesthetics
My monograph Das Tier im Bild (2023) develops a framework for analysing animals in photography beyond mere representation as types, grounded in ecofeminism and care ethics. An English article version is currently in preparation.
My doctoral research, completed at eikones – Center for the Theory and History of the Image (University of Basel), examined how images shape human-animal relations.
Equine Ethics
Equine Ethics is a key focus of my research, developed in collaboration with Maude Ouellette-Dubé. Our work investigates the current tensions and transformations in human–horse relations, asking how philosophical inquiry can help critically understand and orient these relations.
Outputs include the Karen Dalke Early Career Prize for Excellence in Equine Research, conference presentations, blog contributions to Horse Intricacies, and the monograph Equine Ethics: A Philosophical Introduction. (in progress)
Professional Service & Engagement
Alongside my research and teaching, I contribute to several initiatives in the fields of animal and environmental ethics. I serve on the scientific advisory board of the journal Tierstudien where I act as a peer reviewer. I am also a member of the advisory board of compas – Institut für tier- und naturgestützte Interventionen, providing animal ethics advice. I am a co-founder of the charitable foundation Sellenhofstiftung, which promotes education in environmental and animal ethics.
